I recently had the pleasure of designing a 4-page booklet for VSI Valve Sales Inc., a leading provider of safety valves, pressure relief valves, control valves, and actuation products and services. The project showcased the depth of VSI’s offerings and underscored my ability to deliver clean, professional, and functional designs for industrial clients.
The Project Brief
The client discovered my services through a Google search and reached out via my website’s contact form. In his initial message, he specified the need for a 4-page line card to feature 12 product categories and 25-30 brands. He also shared an 8-page services line card previously created for VSI, requesting that I use it for inspiration and condense its content into the new design. Additionally, the client wanted QR codes integrated into each page, linking to their website.
The Design Process
Gathering Resources
One of the first steps was to gather high-resolution logos for all the brands VSI represents. While the client provided links to the brand websites, I had to ensure each logo met the quality standards necessary for print. Fortunately, only a few logos required replacement with higher-resolution versions.
Layout and Design
My goal was to create a design that was both visually appealing and easy to navigate. Here’s how I structured the line card:
Page 1
- Large company logo and slogan
- Contact information prominently displayed
- Locations information
Page 2
- Product categories presented in a blue and red color scheme
- Alphabetically arranged product types and logos
- A clean table layout to organize information
Page 3
- Brands listed in alphabetical order with logos and descriptions
- Alternating grey and white shading for clarity
Page 4
- Condensed services information from the previous 8-page brochure
- Consistent footer design on pages 2, 3, and 4, including website, email, phone number, and QR code
Within four days, I delivered the first draft, addressing missing information, inconsistencies, and questions about certain logos.
Client Feedback and Revisions
The client responded enthusiastically to the initial draft: “I would like to start by saying that I REALLY like what you’ve done! Most of my comments and requests are correcting the data that I sent you. Now that I see it in a line sheet, it needed some work.”
One specific request was to make the email and phone number fields editable in the PDFs, allowing salespeople to enter their personal contact information. After several iterations to adjust font sizes and placements, we achieved the desired result.
Final Delivery
Upon finalizing the design, I provided the client with print-ready files, including:
- A PDF with bleed and crop marks for professional printing
- A PDF for in-house printing, email distribution, social media, or website use
- A final PDF with fillable fields
The client’s final feedback was extremely positive: “Thank you VERY much, I have already told my counterparts at our sister companies about you.”
Conclusion
This project exemplifies my expertise in creating detailed and user-friendly designs for industrial clients. If your company needs professional design services to elevate your marketing materials, feel free to contact me. I look forward to helping you achieve your design goals.
